    Twisted Damascus

I am going to try a billet this weekend, I am going to use 11 layers and forge it out to 12 inches and only twist it 5 times. We will see what I get. I like the low layer count, probably because as I get older it is hard for me to see the high layer count! Hahaha!

Is this Digital pyrometer any good??

Ok, I need to replace my thermocouple in my forge, I used Ed's design to build it a year ago. That thermocouple had wire that connected to the PID. It looks like the new one does not come with them... I am looking at the K QXL 14 U 12. I am not sure what I need....

    Twisted Damascus

I made my first twisted Damascus last week end, I started with 11 layers, 6 of 1084 and 5 15n20. I welded forged out cut and restocked 3 layers so 33 layers. I then twisted it 10 times in 2 heats. I did 2 separate billets, one came out perfect and the other had some cracks on the edge but still...

Yes, they do want to slide. I will take a few pictures of how I clamp them down and the glue up and post them on the next set I do.

    Low layer count damascus

I have done one by hand and used a charcoal brake drum forge. It was a lot of hammering! I used 1084, 15n20 and 5160. It was 1"x 1"x 3", I folded it 3 times for a 15 layer billet. After I finished this, I built my blown propane forge and started building my press!!! Your plan sounds right, I...

    Spalted pecan scales

They floated in the resin to start with, no floating at all after vacuuming the air out and and letting them soak over night. These stabilized very well!

    Spalted pecan scales

I cut up a pecan log the other weekend, man, did I hit the jackpot! I can't believe all the different looks that I got. I still have half the log to cut up. I have all of these stabilized with cactus juice now. I wet the 2 individual scales so I could get a look at it.
