Spalted pecan scales

I cut up a pecan log the other weekend, man, did I hit the jackpot! I can't believe all the different looks that I got.
I still have half the log to cut up. I have all of these stabilized with cactus juice now. I wet the 2 individual scales so I could get a look at it.

Boy do those look good. Now they are stabilized, do they almost sink in water? How much floats out of water? You did good!

They floated in the resin to start with, no floating at all after vacuuming the air out and and letting them soak over night. These stabilized very well!

Good deal, soaking in resin overnight is the trick to using Cactus Juice. All the blocks I've used CJ on either sink in water, or float just level with water. About the same as the K&G blocks I've got with some sinking in water and others floating just level with water.

Again, those are some good looking scales - a whole log huh? Lucky you.

I used a set of the pecan scales this weekend. I like the look! The blade is my first AEB-L. Can't wait to sharpen her up and see how it works.

Very cool knife. Any issues clamping the two scale materials together due to the angle? It seems like it would slide. I'm not sure if I am explaining that correctly.

Yes, they do want to slide. I will take a few pictures of how I clamp them down and the glue up and post them on the next set I do.
