Next Level Knifemaking by Jason Fry

The struggle continued, but thanks to a friend who had planned to travel late Friday night, the books arrived at my house in Lubbock at 6 p.m. Friday night and were on my table on Saturday morning by the time the show opened at 10. They are available on Amazon, but it's through print on demand...

Next Level Knifemaking by Jason Fry

We are still having fits with the distributor on this one, and they messed up my personal order, so I am not going to have these at my table at ICCE. It's been a cluster.

    A run of slipjoints

Did these with a shaped stone set in an arbor in the mill. Still not super satisfied

I think they’re going out from the warehouse Fitzo. Let me know what happens.

    "Cattle Drive" Bowie for ICCE

Two years ago at the last ICCE, Alice Carter and I hatched a plan for a special knife. We've had it done for a while, but are finally glad to announce it will be presented at ICCE this year. Some of y'all know I like historical elements in my work. This knife is full of history and tells a...

Next Level Knifemaking by Jason Fry

OK, after a few quirks and messes with Amazon, this one is finally set up right where the 24.99 Prime one shows up when you search. Thanks Goot for the quality review...

    Texas Independence Bowie for ICCE

Today is Texas Independence Day, and a fitting occasion to finish this knife project. When I say I am patriotic, be clear that my loyalty is to Texas first. I’ll summarize the knife here, although there is more detail in the WIP thread in Shop Talk over on that "other" forum. All of these...

    Big oosik bowie for ICCE

Honest truth, lol? Let's call it a "Spanish notch." Truth is, when I got to hand sanding, there was a small edge crack there. I used a 1/8 carbide end mill to chase the crack out and add the decorative element.

Next Level Knifemaking by Jason Fry

Not much story on that one. I sent the publisher every pro pic I had, and that's the one he picked. Lanyard hole was tricky on that one, as there were elements of the horn texture that went through the lanyard area. Typically I grind the tube down to match the contour of the horn, but it sure...

    Big oosik bowie for ICCE

I've been working a bit on a big bowie that will be ready for ICCE in Fort worth. The steel is some W2 that I got from my fellow Forged in Fire competitor Rob Singleton, clay quenched for a good hamon. The oosik was my door prize at the last ICCE in Kansas City, and I've been waiting on a big...

Forged in Fire, whiskey, and Gil Hibben

I’m with you there. That’s part of why I didn’t go more complex. Has to be the whiskey barrel, but that makes part of it plain.

    Damascus Source Question

On the one hand, it is American made steel and better than the imports. On the other hand, you do in fact get what you pay for. I've used it a half a dozen times, and had problems some of those times. I don't prefer it, but it is better than Paki.

Forged in Fire, whiskey, and Gil Hibben

Quite a while back I got the idea for a knife based off of my Forged in Fire episode. I used some W2 from my fellow competitor Rob Singleton. I was able to get a white oak whiskey barrel lid from Linda Hibben, the legendary Gil Hibben’s wife. I also had parts of the busted Qinglong Ji from...

    Can this anvil be saved?

Use the other side ;) My first anvil had half the top plate broken off and I made it work. If the price is cheap to free, go for it.

6 by 9 is correct. Intermediate paperback size. FWIW my other book is 4.5 by 7, a standard small paperback size. IDK on Canada. My longer term goal is to get Canadian distribution through some of the supply dealers there, but like I said, I don't even have a copy yet.

That is super cool and crazy, I wasn't even aware it was on Amazon yet! I have yet to see my first copy, although I know it's been sent to print.

    Tire Hammer

Everything I have heard about them says that the classes are great and the hammers are too. Where else are you going to get a well functioning PH for 3200? Not without a hunt. That said, if you're handy and can weld, the plans are available. Also there are folks who manufacture the parts...
