    My Surface Grinder Attachment

I wouldn’t do anything else until you have magnets epoxied in and then try surfacing. Using tape & superglue can very easily account for the variance you’re seeing. The blade needs to be held perfectly flat, held by the magnets.

Heat Treat Ovens, Looking for Input

Definitely have a 220v line run to the space you need. I did this when I built my belt grinder. For an oven I agree it’s an absolute MUST! Shame you’re not interested in building one. It’s one of those places you can save SO MUCH much money to invest in other things. But I get it. Building just...

    Everyone busy during the pandemic?

Absolutely Tracy, I got this one, but there are many more. https://www.amazon.com/Mophorn-Machine-4500RPM-Brushless-Industrial/dp/B07XB9D1L6/ref=mp_s_a_1_27?dchild=1&keywords=brushless+servo+motor&qid=1586044225&sr=8-27 Like I said, mine is 750watts(1hp). Ken got his first after I showed...

    Another Makers Mark Question

Are you referring to the electrolyte recipe on Ernie’s original website? I noticed it’s not up online anymore. It was still up as of March...the beginning of this thread. Does Ernie’s son Bo have a new website, do you know? Or is he just running things “word of mouth”. Edit: Nevermind. DUH! You...

Can you use this instead of Heat treat foil?

Foil is still the best. I use heat sink/air cooled steels, and any build up coating on the surface would hinder the aluminum plates from doing their job. Admittedly, I don’t heat treat treat my blades. I was all set to build a heat treat oven...even purchased some of the electronics. But when I...

    123 Blocks

123 block seems like it would be a bit bulky to me. I just use a piece of steel screwed to the jig over the blank. I position the blade at the angle I want the plunge line and the steel piece is parallel to the platen.

    Everyone busy during the pandemic?

I hope everyone is well. Many people hurting in the country. I’ve been taking care of a couple projects the last few weeks. I finally took my SGA to a new level. Ordered an 3”x8” contact wheel in 90a Duro hardness rubber. With it I’m using 89”long belts! I found 6”x89” belts, made a belt...

    Another Makers Mark Question

First decide how large you want the mark to be. The size will dictate what can be included, i.e., full name or initials.

    My shop is collapsing...

Your statements at the end got to me Forgedog . I wish I had a quick easy fix for you, but things are never that easy. However, I will be praying for you brother. And hope you’re looking to our Father above for guidance. When I was blinded in my left eye & let go from my job as Range...

    solder bronze

Yeah, your right. But then, 400F seems too much for Carbon steel as well. But I guess better than than 1000F +. I stray away from stuff like that anyway. Good luck to the OP.

    solder bronze

That’s about the temps of normal soldering. Brazing temps, whether using Copper or Silver alloys, is in the 1,100F-1200F and even higher. This is the very high strength joining.

    solder bronze

This is actually Silver soldering or Brazing. Much higher temps than typical soldering, but not as much as fusion welding. If looking for “brass” color, use Silicone Bronze, if “stainless” color is your achieving goal, use Nickel-Silver. Don’t forget plenty of good flux! As it’s brazing. You can...

    Liner lock

Ed is correct. I spent all of 2019 just researching, learning & preparing. I have JUST NOW started on folders. Frame lock folders. Great advice on the Surface Grinder as well. And what do ya know... I already showed everyone how to replicate the SGA quite affordably, LOL!;):) But even now I am...

    Spindle sander?

Of course I’d like more oscillation. But for that price, can’t really complain! I mitigate the loss by using different height spacers is all. That wall I’ll still be able to use the full length. Having any oscillation is a big, big bonus with sanding. And the bulk of my horizontal needs are...

    Another Makers Mark Question

Last time I had him make a stencil it was $60. I forget how many stencils that comes with, but I get so many blades done per stencil, I don’t even worry about it. Figure if you get 6 stencils(I know it’s at least that many), and you get 10 blades per(I’ve done 10 easy per stencil), you’re paying...

    Another Makers Mark Question

Ive used Ernie for many years now. http://www.erniesknives.com/ I was right where you are, some years back. Wasn’t sure if I wanted to get a punch or a etching machine & stencils. I ended up going stencils/etching because I was able to make my own etching/marking machine easily, and the steels...

    Spindle sander?

That was on my mind as well. I’m going the Sorrentino route and using this one https://www.amazon.com/WEN-HA5932-Variable-Portable-Oscillating/dp/B07VCTPCJQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=oscillating+spindle+sander&qid=1582672390&sprefix=oscillating+spind&sr=8-3 It’s a portable, but has even a stronger...
