Another Makers Mark Question

Dang.....I think I just felt a tear running down my cheek. all kidding aside that was a good story.
I've always felt all animals, even rattle snakes have the same right to be here as us.
I like animals in the woods I've never met better than a lot of the people I have met. :D

That looks good Randy! Is it ok to use clip art off of the internet or is it copyrighted or something? Here is one that I put together yesterday.Logo.jpg

There are a lot of royalty free images on the internet which are ok to use. When you search google for images there is a drop down menu for usage rights. It will tell you if it's ok to use. I prefer vector images because they can scaled without a lose in quality. Some of those are free and other can be purchased very cheaply, usually less than a dollar. Your image looks good. The interlocking horns may give you a little trouble. I would scale the image to the size you want your mark to be and then print it out to make sure it was ok. The image below is to scale.

Mine is NOT one of the cheapo ones, I'll thank you very much! My royalty payment is due net now! If need be, I am set up for billing. (That does incur an additional fee, of course.)

Make something yourself. DO NOT pay someone to “design” something for you. Make it your own. What YOU want. Personally, I’d recommend against using an Elk. It’s been used SOOOO much! It’s like every hunters “go to” animal, lol. I not fond of animals at all really...but it is cool when there is a meaning..a story behind it, like Ken’s.

My Mark is simple. Something I made by hand. I don’t even have my name, although I don’t push sales either. I would strongly urge you create it yourself though...whatever you choose. You’ll be glad in the long run.

To each his own I guess. To me a maker’s mark without your name is useless. No one will ever know who made the knife. I’m proud of my work and want people to know I made it. Some people are good with their hands but not with a computer. So sometimes the only alternative is to pay someone. Anyone that needs a maker’s mark I will be glad to help free of charge. I’m just a DM away.

Randy, I'm one of those "not so good at the computer guys." I appreciate any help I can get and will definitely avail myself of your abilities in the computer aided design arena. I just don't want makers mark that I design cause I ain't very good at it! . Now, if anyone needs some filing done........

Personally, I think it is important to have your name in your makers mark. As for the elk, maybe so, but it still looks cool and no one has that specific picture of elk. I would agree though on making your own makers mark, it makes it a little more personal, but unfortunately I am no artist.

Cool logos I like the rooster that was gonna be my theme when I was first looking at making a makers mark but I went a different route ...... the elk one is my favorite though ...... I have a logo ready for a stencil or punch but I can’t decide which route to go what is better stencil for etching or custom punch I have some quotes for punches but haven’t looked into stencils what do they cost

Ive used Ernie for many years now. http://www.erniesknives.com/

I was right where you are, some years back. Wasn’t sure if I wanted to get a punch or a etching machine & stencils.
I ended up going stencils/etching because I was able to make my own etching/marking machine easily, and the steels I use don’t respond very well to a brand.

Bought mine from Ernie too. Great guy to do business with.
