    Stupid tax

You've all spotted legitimate questions I should have asked, but not the main one. Taxes should be clear up front, but eBay probably does that in its Terms & Conditions, so sellers are covered by that blanket. Shipping is indeed high, especially if you buy only one item. I bought three...

    Newbie buffing question

Thanks again, Deane. I taped off the wood and got the spine of the blank polished to my satisfaction. And now I know why NOT to do the polishing before attaching the scales. Makes sense. I appreciate the tips.

    Stupid tax

Without tipping you off, could a few of you take a look at this eBay listing for wood and tell me if I got tricked or if I was just stupid...

    Anyone work hackberry?

I bought a few pieces of spalted hackberry and hackberry burl from a local veneer producer in Southern Indiana. Has anyone worked hackberry and could you offer tips? It feels light and somewhat porous, which makes me worry that it may suck up stain fast and perhaps unevenly. I've made a few...

    Spalted Hornbeam

Gorgeous! No experience with hornbeam, I'm afraid. My biggest problem with a piece like this is trying to figure out which area gets sacrificed. I want to use the whole piece. Ha! Be sure to come back with some photos of the finished piece.
