    This metal is hard!

So sometimes I get stock from a reputable source and it cuts well on my band saw. Sometimes I have to heat to 1500 and let it cool again to soften it. Do some manufactures harden the metal? I’ve ruined some blades. Now I just cook them all.

    Warped Scales

I usually layer my g10 and scales between two pieces of bar steel and then clamp the steel bars together . I then feel the steel can’t flex when everything is drying. I don’t know if it helps. Or use my bench vise which is about 4 inches long. I clamp the bottom of the scales with the vise then...

Makers Mark help on dark blade.

Any tips on how to remove say 1/2 round area of the scale on a blade that I left black after heat treat. ? This will allow a maker’s mark to show up when etched. KITH finished for Dennis. Added video

You are welcome. I enjoyed doing it. My favorite part of this forum is the KITH. I really wanted to use something special and unique for the pin. I ended up using a broken cheap spatula in my kitchen drawer that had a dowel shaped handle. Nothing but the best for you Dennis.

Even better. My wife and I are fond of Hawaii. We honeymooned there and promised we would go back on our 10 year anniversary. We are at 36 years and still haven’t made it back so we like to collect items from Hawaii.

Did I hear my name? That is so nice. I have been sending the pics to my son to follow along. That pattern is beautiful. As far as the handle goes. I know exactly what I want. I want you to pick it. I struggle with complimenting blades with handle material.

How do you do your makers mark? Is the steel red hot, do you have a jig to make it stamp straight?
