Controversial Subject for Knife Makers and Star Trek fans.

Seeings how most knife makers work all alone, my guess would be all 4.

Almost back in the shop...with a new design.

Glad see you back, and feeling better Ted. That looks like it will be an amazing knife. Thank you for the compliment, but I really don't think you should add me in with the likes of Kevin Cashen.

    Curly maple hunter

Last year I was fortunate enough to spend a week in John Doyle's shop. He is very generous with his time and knowledge. And by generous I mean generous, he spent an entire week helping fix my mistakes! He denies it but I think he got tired of it and tried to poison me. I was sick (poisned) the...

What's going on in your shop?

I should have been getting the scales glued up on this knife today. Instead I spent most of the day trying to come up with different designs for projects coming up. In the end the tried and true design that I've been making from the start is getting a face lift.

    Flattening new scales

If you want a book match set, I would recommend flattening the inside of the scales first. If you want to make life easier when you are drilling the material for your pins eventually both sides should flat. It's next to impossible too fit scales on a tang if the pin holes are crooked.

What's going on in your shop?

Happy Easter! The natural beauty of wood is always amazing. 1000 grit, freshly dyed, and no oil yet.

What's going on in your shop?

It survived! Lightly etched wrought iron, with a touch of cold blue. Next up will be finish sanding the handle to a 1000 grit and some dye.

What's going on in your shop?

Thanks Ed! Giving it a shot right now. Kinda crude but not to bad for 2 minutes worth of work.

What's going on in your shop?

With 6 inches of snow coming I decided to work on a year old project. Trying to get the fluted guards matched without having John here to fix it for me when I screw it up is somewhat nerve wracking.

    Get to the choppa!

I think it looks good, and you used a good combo with the material. I also stopped taking, which is a good thing. I usually only find time to work on knives once a month.

    Latest FIF

Haven't watched a forged in fire for awhile, but the salt trick seems like a good idea. Salt melts at 1465, non- magnetic is around 1420 give or take.

    Brent Bailey Hammer

I don't own one, but one of the teachers at my intro to bladesmithing class last year was nice enough to let me use his for half a day. The first week I used a 2.2 pound Swedish style hammer, his 2 pound hammer moved steel just as well. I was not as tired after hammering out a bowie blade using...
