    Copper River

I found some new 2.5" copper pipe at the scrap yard. Cut, split, heated it red and quenched then straightened it.

    Copper River

I have a tendency to agree. One of the things I learned on this project is I didn't start with enough core thickness. The core started as .215, the damascus layers were about the same and the copper was a little over .062.

No, I just etched my name then covered it with nail polish. Thanks

    Copper River

Thanks Ken. Core steel is 1084, the damascus is 15n20/1095. I stacked the premade damascus, copper and 1084 together and welded the outside of the stack. The weld had many porosities from the copper. I think on the next one I'd make the copper 1/8" smaller all around trying for a better...

    Copper River

This one stretched my boundaries a little. 8.5" edge, 14" OA, 5/16" spine with a hammer texture guard and a K&G stabilized brown dyed curly maple handle.

    Metal lathe...

Looks like my 9x30 Enco. I paid $500. Probably made in the same factory. Yours has a $300 3 axis DRO and is in nicer shape.

    New forge

I use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R7VS6HX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I had to make a plenum to adapt to a 3/4" pipe but it works great. I reach welding temp at about 1/2 to 2/3 speed but my forge doesn't have the internal volume of the OP.

    Cake knife for our anniversary.

I decided to make a cake knife. Not really but this bowie will be used for that. 126 layers of 15n20 and 1084 with an unbelievable piece of koa from Shelton Pacific. 8.5” edge, 13” oa .

I'd just "leaf" that right there.

I don't see a vise in your list. If you get into frame or liner locks a rotary table is helpful.

    Home made Anvil?

In most places forklift forks must recertified every so often. Forks that do meet criteria are scraped. Sometimes you can get them at little or no cost. I've cut, stacked and welded them together to make decent anvils. I give them to new knife makers.

So you're about to set up your first table at a local arts festival...

Stand when conversing with someone at your table. It shows you have interest in them. Some sellers bring chairs that are bar height.

More Dumb Questions about Mills (tooling edition)

Drew put up a good list. For me the vice, parallels, hold downs and cheap end mills all from ebay were first were first. I didn't like the thought of r8 collets and drawbar so opted for ER25 collets. The range of grip with them allow me to not need a drill chuck. My 4" rotary table is also...

    Mill "requirements"

Drill presses are designed to push straight down. If your plans include travel along the piece get a mill. Can you hoke along with a dp fr a few? Sure, but if you plan to make more get the right tool. Why have to unlearn bad habits? As for size. Heavier is better. It’s weight and rigidity...
