    Railey’s KITH for DeMo (WIP)

Makes sense. I was just curious.

    Railey’s KITH for DeMo (WIP)

Agree. I am curious though.....why did you fuller the billet wider when you already had 1.75" of width?

    Railey’s KITH for DeMo (WIP)

So. Much. Disappointment. :( I thought you were more dedicated than that. I hope this goes without saying but.........I'm only joking. Just giving Chris a hard time. I'm looking forward to seeing this build.

    Railey’s KITH for DeMo (WIP)

That's the nice thing about a canister......one weld and you have a finished billet. Now clean that up and get it test etched.......yet tonight. Skip your family Christmas if you need to.

    Garbage steel

All good. I'm relieved to know you weren't serious. :)

    Garbage steel

I missed this the first time around. I'm not sure if you're serious, being sarcastic or attempting to stir the pot? What about this link you posted do you find "incredible"? And I'm being serious. I honestly think there are numerous WIP threads on various knife forums with better...

What's going on in your shop?

It was a loose copy of a cheap reel from my 4 wt. TFO. But that reel is likely a copy of a Danielson.

I think it would be possible to bend that blade more easily if you were doing something like using the side to press/smash garlic cloves or cutting something with a lot of force, like a rutabaga, and the blade got twisted or torqued due to an uneven cut or the rutabaga rolled. It may also rust...

    Garbage steel

I appreciate your detailed response. No I don't think you're wrong or upside down. But I also don't think that type of construction is of any benefit on a knife like that. And it may in fact be at a disadvantage. I want to state clearly that I know you didn't say it was an advantage and that...

    Garbage steel

I'm all for open, honest discussion where people can talk candidly but civilly. And I'm certainly not picking on you but since you asked, I'll play if I may? What type and size of knife is the intended outcome of your billet?

    Garbage steel

I don't have an issue with art, sculpture art even functional art. But with a knife, sometimes the "art" is diametrically opposed to the function. Maybe a different functional object would be a better choice?........one where the artful elements don't compromise or matter to the integrity?

    Garbage steel

I can't say I disagree with you. I respect everyone's right to do as they wish. However.....my mindset has always been to make the best knife possible with proven methods and known materials. I do take issue with the makers who sell as a regular business touting high quality blades out of...

What's going on in your shop?

Finally got this family Christmas project all finished up. Now my little caddis fly has a proper perch. This was much more complex and time consuming than I anticipated. Really far too much involved for a family homemade gift exchange. I sped it up by eyeballing most of the layouts and...

    What to use

I would use parks 50 for any 10xx, w1/w2 and 15n20 and pattern welded steel made with any of those. I would not use parks 50 for 80CrV2 or 52100. For that I'd use a slower/medium speed oil.

Lol....it wouldn't float very well, would it?
