    Should I get my LLC??

Always talk to a CPA about these things. They will charge you several hundred dollars but can save you thousands and thousands. I operate my business under two different LLC's. They offer some liability protection and tax benefits. There is often more than one type of LLC offered by a state. I...

What's going on in your shop?

Turned out these are fun to throw and I’ve had a few local buddies ask me to make some more. These are Mild steel 3/16” thick and make a very satisfying thunk when they hit the target. You can make these pretty easy but we will list these for $25ea or 3 for $60. Hopefully we get them listed by...

What's going on in your shop?

https://www.facebook.com/groups/365713187577010/files I couldn't figure out how to just upload it here so I uploaded a .dwg file/drawing of a 12" throwing knife. There are *lots* of free apps that will print this format file out or you can import it to a CAD program. The link above has several...

What's going on in your shop?

I haven't been making any knives lately but I have been busy on knife stuff. We needed a new knife throwing target out back. 2ea 4x4"x8" posts sunk in the ground and 2x6" nailed to them. It's a pretty stout target and we can change out the boards as they get chewed up. If a knife is good a...

    Stabilized wood question

The pump will get hot. It is normal. You can leave it run for hours and it will speed things along. Here in our shop, we pull a vacuum in our pots once or twice a day and let them soak. Doing it that way adds several days but we don't have the noise and smoke from the compressor and I don't have...

    Starting in Kydex

Ed, your constant bashing of "knife supply outfits" is getting old. It's not a secret that buying bulk is cheaper than buying smaller quantities but posts like this make me wonder why you are here, posting every day on a forum sponsored at no charge to the community so you can trash talk...

    When pins get hot

They are not a problem. A *Lot* of people use it.

    When pins get hot

use a hand file to get pins down flush with little or no heat, then finish as you would otherwise. i Would normally use a band saw to cut the pins as close as I can and then hand file flush. After that just hand sand.

    Cost to make formula

LOL.. No funky pink. Here are a couple things to consider: 1. Women own and buy more knives than men. It's not even close. 2. Pink is signature color for breast cancer awareness and I see *a lot* of knives donated to a charity raffle with pink handles. The downside (not really a downside, it is...

    Cork belts - update

SRJohnson taught me about cork belts a long time ago. He uses them today and learned about them while he worked with Ron Lovelass. Steve is a knife making legend. I have never seen a cork belt without grit. You can use them "plain" just like they are in the grits you want. They generate a lot...

    Cork belts - update

I use a cork belt on nearly every knife I build anymore. I coat it generously and often with green chrome buff compound.

    CPM-154 Hardness

yes. an engineer for crucible told me they suggest trying 63RC as it would hold up but I never did get around to that. I do feel, but never measured in any sense, that 61rc holds and edge quite a bit longer than the over rated 59RC.
