    Christmas in july KITH 2010

A sheath would not be required for a kitchen knife, but a stand would be nice, or as suggested a box.

    my plunges could be better

Seth, If your plunges are nice and straight, and the only problem is cleaning up the coarser marks from the belt, then I would recommend you get some 1/8' or 3/16" woden dowels and cover them with sandpaper(I like the 3m wetordry) glue it firm in grits from 220 up as far as you need. you can...

Anthony, Thats OK, the idea of posting a pic of the finished knife came to me several days after I started this KITH and I added it in then, its certianly possible that you read the first version. I decided to add that because I thought it would help in making sure that everyone was finished by...

    3m gators or Noton norax?

I have just the opposite opinion, I love the 3m gators. They last forever, and in the event of the occurance listed above by ED, they can easily be resurfaced. I personally have finished over 300 blades on a single belt, and it still had some life in it yet. I now have them in every grit...

    Has anyone made damascus chisels?

Only when the damascus maker doesn't properly choose steels properly. Properly done you should not be able to tell the difference between the parent steels and the damascus made from them. The heat treatment is the critical factor here.

Off topic the tools for rebuilding civilization

I agree and its one of my very favorites, although it may not be among the younger generation of readers. When those guys get together to write, some real magic happens. I have every book they wrote together except for the last one, add in Steve Barnes and those two books are in my top ten of all...

Off topic the tools for rebuilding civilization

Its funny that you mention books, that is the very thing I was thinking about while singing in church today. The group that started the movement was a religious group, so I doubt that bibles would be forbidden, though it wasn't mentioned. I was thinking that I would want a bible and a hymbook...

Rock, I'm glad you revised your list, your first choices would be pointless with no bottles left or cans either, you wouldn't have many oppurtunities to use the last item.

Off topic the tools for rebuilding civilization

I was listening to a compilation of short stories today while I was working, and it got me thinking. The story way set not far in the future and the people in it willingly gave up all modern technology and machinery, back to the level of early iron age man. They destroyed everthing by a device...
