The Heat Treat is a bit more involved than say 1080, 1084 and 1075. You can still use it but it's not as beginner friendly. Now if you had a bunch of super cheap or free 1095 I'd try it because of cost. But if your gonna buy I would buy one of the other 3 steels for an easier heat treat and...

My first book was "The $50 Knife Shop" great book but definitely not as deep into Heat treating as it seems you want to go! As far as steels however any 10XX Steels should serve you well!! 1075, 1080 and 1084 are fantastic steels for all makers, new or experienced (stay away from 1095 for now)...

Not sure if it would work on SS but people like Kyle Royer use Cold Blue on hi carbon stuff. Do your etch, sand lightly, clean good and apply the cold bluing. Wipe off excess and Sandrine you would for etch?? Again not sure it would work for SS?

Ordered a set of plans from ABANA for their Air Hammer. Still looking for the Frankin Hammer plans too. Trying to figure what one will suit me better.

Missed the "Bushcraft" that's why I suggested the hollow grind. Like Kev said looks a bit small for a Bushcraft knife but to each their own!

I like it a lot! I made one very similar. If you want to lighten up even more consider a Hollow Grind. That's what I did on the one I made. I won't sell it its my favorite knife that I made!

I found the blade! Ken you were correct it is a stock number. As far as I can tell its shaped and hardened! All I have to do really is handle it! Comes with a brass guard!
