We have had the opposite weather with the last couple of days being between the high 90's and into the 100degree range.

We are at 10* ( that is temp not including wind chill) here in sunny Fl. and 9* in Boston!!! What the heck!! I watched the skiff of snow and ice melt some in the sun yesterday. However those areas that was not exposed to the sun. They still have snow and ice in them this morning!! My back hatch/glass was froze shut last night from where the snow and ice had melted down during the day. Went out last night about 10:30 PM to get some TP I had left in the Blazer and I had to crawl thru the front to the back as I could not get the back open. I have 38* in my unheated garage this morning.

I think someone moved Florida when I wasn't looking!!!

here in sunny downtown Creedmoor, the temperature is up to 20*F. the wind is light and there is not a cloud in the sky. most of the snow is still powder.

This was the view from my back porch. The sun is just hitting the tops of the trees across the way.

est for you guys......:)
Where did the phrase "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey" originate??

That's from the old British Navy sailing ships - the "brass monkey" was a brass rack that held cannon balls. When it got really cold, the brass would shrink causing the cannon balls to fall off.

How about a "Nantucket Sleigh Ride"?

Now that's a good one! I had never heard that before.
A Nantucket sleigh ride was a term used by Nantucket whalers to describe what occurs immediately following the harpooning of a whale. The whale, distressed - or, more likely, annoyed - by the harpoon, attempts to flee and thus drags the whalers' longboat along with it.

Well I have heard the jokes about both for years but, never the origin of the phrase! I guess that means there once was a gal from Nantucket.................. DO NOT FINISH THIS, we will all get banned!!!!

It just makes you wonder if there was and origin!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm LOL OK going stir crazy and I know the origin of the one!!!

Opaul, if you'd not heard that one, where did you think the phrase came from?

You're right, it's when the harpooned whale drags the boat thru the water. The harpoon did more than annoy the whale, a good harpooner could get the harpoon down into the heart and lungs leading to death.

Just got back from north florida hunting trip, it was in the 20s in the morning and after the sun hit the tree tops in the afternoon.
when I left Wed. morning it rained for about an hour and there were icicles hanging from the trees.
I know this, it was cold sitting up in them stands with the wind blowing....Brrr.
