    Buying a grinder or sander

Hey man check out the craftsman 2x42 from sears. It's my current sander and is an absolute workhorse.

A new guys year of knifemaking

Looks like exceptional work for a newbie. I do have a question though, why are you bevels so small? Were you going for scandinavian grinds? If not, try bringing your grinds up higher. You'll find that a higher grind provides an edge geometry that slices through objects more easily.

    Knife from a beginner

Doug, why bring the temperature down? If he got the proper hardness from his quench, 425 should give him a Rockwell C hardness of ~59. I got this from kevin cashen's website and from heat treating and hardness testing 1084 myself. This seems to work well for me, although, I do use a temperature...

    A Newbie's 1st and 2nd Knives.

I was just curious because the first knife I did looked like a poorly constructed prison shank/steak knife. Nothing wrong with constructing "component set" knives, I was just curious. Very nice work man. Be warned, if you get into stock removal/forging they will suck you in. There's no hope for...

Yeah....I took the pictures in the car on the way to deliver the knife if I remember correctly. I'm bad about taking pictures last minute before a knife goes off to someone.

Latest Knife....first new knife posted on the forum

Hey guys, this is my latest knife. This one was commissioned by my stepdad for a fun auction for a beefmaster cattle organization he's in. I chose the pecan wood since it's the state tree of Texas. New Jersey Steel Baron 1084 Heated to 815C and quenched in water prior to bevels being ground...

Kyle Royer, MS ~ Damascus Wharncliffe

Wow, very nice blade. I saw your journey to master videos on youtube and it was a very interesting watch.

    Fixed blade

Very interesting design, I've never seen a fixed blade that looks so much like a folder. Very impressive work.

What are your favorite blade steels? Why?

154 cm is my favorite for production knives, holds an edge well and isn't hard to sharpen. For the knives I make I like 1084, it's my favorite because its all I use right now.
