Fine 2x42 Belts

Ernie Swanson

SASSY PINK LUUNCHBOX KNIFE MAKER
I was wondering if anyone can tell me a good place to find quality 2x42 belts?
I am looking for ones in the upper hundereds, thousands, micron belts, scotch brite, and leather belt.

I am looking to get better at sharpening.

Ernie,

Get in touch with Scott at Tru-Grit, he has just about any belt you will need. I also hear great things about Pops Knife Supply.

Happy hunting2thumbs

Chris

Tru grit is good but they screw up orders disturbingly often. However, they are very nice, have always fixed their mistakes, and have a good variety of products. Supergrit has better stuff and better prices and doesn't screw up, but they have less selection. I go to supergrit first, but tru grit still gets my business when supergrit doesn't have what I need and I recommend them both.

Here is the only things I can find from Trugrit and Supergrit

Trugrit has 600 grit, leather, and conditioning.
Supergrit has 600, and cork polishing.

I am trying to find some in the 800, 1200, and the Microns, for sharpening.

On the plus side Trugrit does have Gator belts.

I just looked at Pops and all I see for 42 inch is 1'' wide.

Thanks so far

I have never had an issue with Tru-Grit, but I have only ordered through them a few times. Had a slight delay this last order but Scott called and got it squared up quickly.

90% of my orders are done through USAKnifemaker.com. Tracy and Lora are always ontop of there game....Just wish they would stock them wonderful Trizact Gators:D

Chris, I do order everything I can from USA Knife maker supply!!
The only thing Tracy does not carry for me is some of my steel, pin material, and 2x42 belts. They have 1x42 but no 2x42.

I am in the process of building a 2x72 and getting a 1x30 soon so this problem will take care of itself, But I have to sell a few knives first:D

Get them blades sold buddy....Your are 100% correct, problem solved from there on!!!

Oh and you might try contacting BarbKat......she sells pretty much any belts you need. If that option fails you, get in touch with Scott and see if he can make a special order for you. I will keep an eye out. If you dont find a 2x42" leather belt, I have a 1x42" that I never use and you can have it.

Good luck bud.

Chris

Ernie thats the whole trouble with odd size belts like 2x42 and so on belts for the 2 x72 are made in a wide variety with high grits just for knife makers in mind. I use the structured norax up to 3000 grit for sharpening but also just got a new tormek so bevels will be alot easier. kellyw

I also use Tru-Grit. havent had any problems with orders and they have allways gotten my orders here proptly. Don't see a 2x72 in the neer future so like you its kinda A bummer not finding 2x42 in anything over 600 grit.(other than the leather). Which BTW I am gonna have to try.

Have you tried to use a 1X42 on your grinder? I know you can do it with a 2X72 but not sure about tracking on your grinder.

Just a thought.

Carey

Thanks all, I guess I will be doing my next order with Trugrit.

I am also going to try a 1x42 on my grinder.

I will also give the cork belts a try.

Hopefully I can get parts for my 2x72 build soon that way I can really get to grinding!!:D

We sharpen all our knives on a crafstman 2x42 now..The final sharpening is done with a 1000 grit 1x42 belt then a leather honing belt. Man they get crazy sharp. We ordered the leather belt right here, the 1000 grit belts we got from truegrit..

Kentucky you got me thinking. I already sharpen and have always thought that a leather belt would be useless but im going to get one soon as I get my new motor from wayne coe . He doesnt know it yet but im ordering a 2hp my vfd will be here any day. Wayne has great prices. Running the belt at high speed would not be as good if you could slow down the rpm with a controller it will work even better. Ernie I think you should call norton and ask if they will make you belts they did for me. I told them what I wanted and they made them . I love jflex for wood they seem to really work nice. If they wont then buy some tape Ernie and make your own from 2x72 and use the excess for hand sanding.

If it get to the point that I need to have Norton make my belts............I better just get a 2x72 going:D

Ernie
Have you tried econ abrasives I have not placed an order with them yet but they carry a lot of belts for 1" x 30" they may have the 2"x 42" as well
