CPM-154 Hardness

I'm working on a couple hunters in cpm154 for my nephews for graduation. I have never used the steel and trying to decide on hardness. I will be sending out for heat treat. Any recommendations? Is appreciated.

Peter’s used to do my CPM154. they also recommended 61. I did that for everything. Works extremely well for everything from hunters to kitchen knives.

side note: same recipe as AEBL. Peters ran my AEBL and CPM154 together in the same batch.

yes. an engineer for crucible told me they suggest trying 63RC as it would hold up but I never did get around to that. I do feel, but never measured in any sense, that 61rc holds and edge quite a bit longer than the over rated 59RC.

I would ask Peters if they can do a low temperature temper and cryo treatment for you. I am told they will do it for 3V. If they target 61RC you'll be very close to maximum toughness for CPM154 and have very good edge retention.
