RZ Mask

Anyone tried one of these?? I just ordered one to try out. Figured it would fit good under my full face shield. The other respirators I have dont fit very good. If this doesn't work I think I'm gonna get a face-shield/respirator combo.

I just looked at them. I have never used one. I don't know??? There's not much for filters from what I see. If you are looking for a full face shield I'd do the good one. You dont want to be breathing in that stuff.

I went back and looked at the replacement filters. Unless you can find one that is good for silica I'd pass on that one.

Maybe someone can correct me but I believe Silica is an Organic compound. According to my web search Active Carbon Filters are good for Organic compounds. To be safe though I sent them an Email.

Silica is actually a mineral. It's the base material for most computer chips and is also used in glass. I don't believe Active Carbon filters will work, but I'd be interested in hearing what they say.

Went on the RZ site looked at their filter offerings, there is a link on each of the filters to a report on the testing they did on their filters. The report clearly states they are not for use with Silica. I did ask them in my Email if they had plans to make Filters for Silica also. So we shall see. Also for anyone interested the rating for a filter rated for Silca seems to be N95 this is the recommended minimum there is also an R95 and P95. I am going to do some more research though I am probably going to end up getting a full face respirator/mask or a forced air system?

Ok here is the reply from RZ.

Stephen,

Thank you for reaching out. We are very excited to currently be in the final testing phase for NIOSH approval. Until this is completed, we are unable to recommend our masks for use with silica. When working with silica, OSHA recommends using an N95 or greater mask. Testing for these ratings has many stages and is where we have received our published filter test results. So far in the process, our filters have been tested to block 99.9% of particulates down to .1 micron. An N95 or N99 rating means that a mask filters at least 95% or 99% of particulates down to .3 micron. However, because we are still in the testing phase, we have not yet received a rating.

If there is anything else you need, please let us know. Thank you!

It seems as though it's coming? Their customer service seems to be GREAT!! I emailed them last night and already recieved a response!

i’ve been wanting to try one of those as I hate traditional respirators with a passion but I didn’t know if this would be suitable for our purposes or not might have to give it a try sometime.

I bought a discounted one for $19.95 and had a 15% off coupon with 5 day free shipping it was about 17 bucks so figured I'd try it? If they come out with that other filter it will be a game changer!!

Again here is a follow up to the first Email asking for an approximate time frame for the release of their new filter.

Stephen,

It has been quite a long multi-phase process and we are happy to be in the final stages. We have been given an "estimated" time of 90-120 days. We are very excited as well and will be sure to make the big announcement on our Facebook and social media sites as soon as it is received. Thank you for your patience. Have a good weekend.

Long testing process, I'm sure like any safety type items. If I hear I will update!
