Kimmi's Cutlery Photos

I used a stamp before the laser engraving. I think it has too many letters that are too small and it makes it hard to get it deep enough. After sanding out a couple of my stampings, I came across this company that does the etching.

I don't see how you could get much crisper than the laser. If you'd like, I can have a sample lasered and send it to you.

That’s a very generous offer. Let me hunt around here for someone that does this kind of work first. Thank you.

Here are a few that I finished up this week. First is an EDC with a cocobolo handle and 1084 blade.

This one is a 1084 EDC blade with curly koa.

The last EDC blade is 3/32" 52100 with thumb jimping and a figured walnut handle.

Last is a new gut hook design with a 1084 blade and curly koa for the handle.

I am going to start including a certificate of authenticity with each knife. One of these knives was picked up today and the customer loved the idea of this. I think having it hand written goes well with a hand made knife.

I think my photography is getting better too.

It is so hard to take pictures of shiny objects without glare and distortion. I struggle with taking decent pictures. This bunch of pictures is very good. Nice background and clear handles without the blade being all wonky. Nice job!!

Thanks Dennis. I took some advice from someone here if I remember right, and took these outside, right at sunset in a shadow. I think they are the best I've taken.

Very nice knives, Gene. I just designed a new certificate of authenticity a couple of days ago. I think it adds a personal touch and the client knows he is getting something unique and special.

Here are a few more I finished up last week. First is a paring knife with purple, quilted maple handles with white G10 liners and black, curly maple bolsters. The blade is .060" 15N20 with a plungeless grind.

Next is a batch of gut hook knives.

Two of these are 1/8" 1084 with stabilized claro walnut handles.

The other 2 are 3/32" 52100 blades, one with a walnut burl handle and one with a walnut crotch handle that has some sapwood.

Last is an EDC knife with a 3/32" 52100 blade with thumb jimping. The handle is stabilized maple burl with red G10 liners.

Here’s a few more finished. These were all made from 15N20 bandsaw blades.

First is a chef’s knife with a plungeless grind. It has double dyed orange and red maple burl for the handle.

The last 2 are filet knives, one with desert camo Kirinite and the other has stabilized curly koa.

Close ups of the curly koa since it’s so hard to get a good shot of the curl.

Here's one of the first AEB-L knives I have finished. This one had a flaw in it so it will stay with me. I decided to use Kirinite on this one so I won't lose it while hunting.

If everything works out right, I'll be able to use it for the first time on this one. Our season opens tomorrow.

Here's a few knives I finished up for Christmas orders. First is a fillet knife out of 15N20 with Toxic Orange Kirinite for the handle.

These are simple paring knives that I sell quite a few of. I've had many customers receive these as gifts who then order more knives after using them.
Six of them have dyed maple burl handles with the last one having dyed quilted maple.

Next is more fillet knives from 15N20. From the top, Curly Koa, figured Claro walnut, Maple burl, stablized Sapele and desert ironwood.

Last are a couple EDC knives out of AEB-L with figured walnut handles.

Beautiful knives Gene, and that's a nice deer too. I'm going hunting again in a couple weeks but my seasons all screwed up this year, my woods got blown up by hurricane Michael. I usually get one by this time of year but no luck so far.

Finally finished a few more. This is a pair of kitchen knives in AEB-L with stabilized maple burl that was dyed violet with black micarta bolsters.

Next is a kitchen knife a customer wanted an exact copy of as it is for her sister who is blind. It is AEB-L with curly koa for the handle.

Here is an EDC knife in AEB-L with curly koa for the handle.

Last up are a couple fillet knives in AEB-L. One with toxic orange kirinite and the other with curly koa.

You have some great work here, Gene! I especially am interested in those paring knives up the page a ways. Are they carbon steel, or stainless? If they are carbon, do you have a problem with them rusting? How thick of steel do you use? Thanks!
