Folks talk about gut hooks and I don't really like them. As Kevin was speaking of that drop point helps. I have seen those who are good at dressing a deer and the will get the point started at the rear and take two fingers to place on each side of that drop point. The knife is then inserted edge up and they run up the length of the animal like a zipper being zipped open. It takes practice and a steady hand but it is as fast and efficient as any gut hook ever thought about being!! Refence the link!
