Holiday Gift Exchange

latest WIPs 001.JPGSanta (John Doyle) was very good to me. For a noob actually getting hands on some very nice handle material was really a second gift. I now know what G10, micarta and some really nice woods look like in person. Thanks Santa, I mean John. The maple burl is going on a Bowie I'll be grinding in a Lisch class in February and the rosewood will be on a companion knife to match the grips on my Kimber. Merry Christmas to all the Dogs.

Awesome Roger! Glad it made it on time. You won't go wrong at the Lisch class. He's a GREAT guy! You'll be very happy.

That hand sanding stick is one of my favorite and most used/prized tools in my whole shop. Merry Christmas. :)

This will be my 5th class with Dave, I need a lot of practice and work on my grinding and that's all this one is, a full day of grinding. Actually have almost the same sanding sticks, one of the first classes I took we used some that Dave had so I went home and made my own from aluminum and some thin rubber. I like yours better with the real thin cushioning material it should work well. When I get my grinding technique good enough I have some HHH Damascus that will go with the Rosewood handled Kimber companion.

So who has received their gifts? More updates Please.

Austin,
I recieved my Christmas gift from you today. Thank you so much for the brass rod and tube, the sanding disks, the ironwood and the beautiful stabilized redwood burl scales.

Merry Christmas!

Yesterday a package arrived from Matt Wallis AKA LlamaHearder.
Matt did a little investigation and tailored his gift items to my style of knives.

A set of stabilized tiger oak spalted scales withG10 black and white liners, I'll use those on a loveless style knife.
A big sheet of the old red fiber liner material that Bob L. used, I love that stuff.
Bog Oak and Lignum Vitae that will go on a Boot knife and dagger.
He topped it off with a nice note and Christmas Card

Thanks again Matt and Merry Christmas ALL
Mark

I got my secret santa gift yesterday. I was shocked to see the label from Midwest Knifemakers Supply on the box. Thanks. In the box was a 12" x 12" x .65" (just over 5/8" thick) dark brown canvas micarta and brass rod in 3/16 and 5/32" x 12". Thanks to my secret santa. This was fun. I just hope that mine got to where it was headed.

I got my gift from Roger on late Friday night. Everything needed to make a knife was in there a piece of 1095, some really cool scales..............looks like leopard wood maybe? A new Nicholson file which I really appreciate and a nice large piece of leather that I really, really needed! And a very nice Christmas card in there, something I totally meant to do and forgot.

Thank you very much Roger! This stuff will go to great use. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Whew,,,why is the week before always a 'rush'. I am late in posting about the great wood that Conner of Sagebrush Blades sent me. Somewhere in this mess on my desk are the names. I plan to use the end-grain to carve 'mokume' like grain for inlay. It opens all kinds of possibilities ...:les:

It's been fun, but here it is 3:00 pm Christmas eve and I still have to finish presents of the wife, daughter, and grand daughter..

MARRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL ...and to all a good night. Teddy

I got a box from DeMo. It was a small flat rate box, but it was heavy! Inside there were corbys, buffalo horn scales, some cherry wood, some Ipe (never heard of that) some walnut scales (very nice walnut), some mosiac pins, some pieces of brass, aluminum and some pin stock. I also got some bore teeth (not sure what to do with them yet). Either way, Dennis sent me a ton of cool stuff. I'm really looking forward to using the stuff. Thanks DeMo! Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

Glad it arrived! I hope everything gets used!

So sorry to hear,it should have arrived by now. I'll have to check with the post office to see what happened.

Austin,
I'm happy to hear via private message that you finally received the Alabama Damascus I sent you. I'm sorry it was late,it shouldn't have been but I guess 9 days isn't enough time for the USPS to get a priority mail package from Florida to North Carolina during the Christmas season.
