Wrought iron san-mai.

Gene Kimmi

KNIFE MAKER
I'm finishing up a few knives that will make 99 I've made since I started. I wanted to do something I haven't done for the 100th, so I ordered some wrought iron and started on it last night. I finished forging the wrought iron this morning and got it welded to a 1084 core.
Once I forged the shape, I did some grinding and etched it to see what it looked like.

I had a little trouble keeping the core centered, but I think I can manipulate the grinding some to make it look ok. Next one I probably won't do as much forging to shape and do more grinding. Hopefully the quench goes good and it doesn't fly apart.

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping to get the blade quenched, sanded and etched this weekend. Excited to see how it finishes out.
