Would this hardness tester work for what we do?

I've been digging around the webs looking for a hardness tester that would not set me back a thousand bucks and I came upon this-

It seems too good to be true, as no one would be dropping 1K or more on a tester if a 200.00 one would work. but I was hoping that maybe someone has used one before, and found them at all reliable. I sure would love to accurately test my blades after HT and cryo...

I'm going to link another thread here that perhaps has some further information. The item you posted appears to operate off of a bouncing probe that rebounds to varying degrees. I wonder about the minimum thickness and accuracy range. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/archive/index.php/t-54349.html

*upon digging into a link at the end of the thread, I find the Detroit brand tool has a 1" minimum thickness listed.
