Wood Sealers

Has anyone used a wood sealer on your handles? I want to make a couple handles out of a Hockey Stick for a hockey nut friend of mine and i think that the wood will need to be sealed as the stick is made of multiple glued layers...

if its glued plywood it really is already sealed to some degree. I use Tung Oil on some of my stabilized blocks but I don't think it will work for Hockey stick? You might look at a Shellac?
 
That's a good idea. I've just been knocking around the idea at this point. Christmas is coming and thought that would be a cool gift.
 
You might try Permalyn Sealer. It is a sealer and a tough finish used on gun stocks
