WIP Survival Knife for My Son-In-Law

KNIFE MAKER
I posted in the general area asking if anyone had built a knife like the one in this post. Not much action because it's an odd knife. Almost a "Fantasy" knife or video game prop. I'm going to ga ahead and attempt to make one similar.

Here is the picture I was given and a drawing I made. The steel should be here tomorrow, and I hope to get started. I have a very busy work schedule so this may take some time...

Steel is going to be a piece of 80CRV2 in .172 thickness. I wanted to keep the price down in case of huge failure...

My knife steel arrived late this afternoon. Only 2 days delivery from AKS, my go to steel shop...

Just enough time before dinner to get the blade marked out and rough cut...and I do mean rough cut!

I always cut outside the lines to give me some grinding room.

I just couldn't sit still and leave it rough cut. Did the initial shape grinding. The bearing must be failing on my small wheel attachment because when I touched them to change wheel size, I burnt the crap out of my thumb...

Not sure if he means WIP threads or this weird beast of a knife...
I was trying to say your WIP will be an interesting thread and I'm looking forward to rest of the WIP - you always do a good job with those.

Not sure I wish to be involved in trying to build that "beast" :)

I meant nothing but complimentary words for you.

Got back in the shop for a couple of hours today.

I coated the blade in layout fluid, marked my lines and hit the grinder. All of this is preliminary freehand grinding on a 36 grit belt. I will refine it on a 60 and then 80 grit before heat treatment.

Comments and advice are appreciated so I know if I'm on the right path.
