Well it's pretty much done. Need to put Resoline on it to make it Water resistant. First time I used cobblers sewing machine. Some of the stiching got a little wonky on the bottom right corner as you can see in the pics. This was my fault I didn't leave enough room for the presser foot. The machine worked really good, and will be a HUGE ASSET making leather goods once I learn how much room I need! Pretty pleased with this project and learned a ton to apply to next project. This pouch was made with 8-9oz leather, had I used 5-6oz it would have formed much easier! The cobbler sewing machine sped the sewing process up immensely!! On a gun belt or something that had a long straight of stiching it would be fantastic!!

I think I'm gonna get 1 of those cobbler machines. I made a sheath for a Bowie/fighter and it took me 3 hours to hand sew it

Jason all the Videos on YouTube said they are fussy, and they are. But once you get them "tuned" they seem to work fine. Three biggest problems I had were figuring out Needle and Thread sizing, how to get Bobbin to work (install it). You have to clean it real good then oil and grease it up. I polished the bobbin holders too. Sanded a lot of the rough edges and fixed some shoddy work. Sounds like a lot of work but its more frustrating! Once you get it all squared away it really runs good. Mine is running well now but I need to tweak the stich length, shouldn't be that big a deal though? You could go nuts I suppose tear it down clean and polish everything paint it etc... I just wanted it to work! Oh and it sewed the 2 layers of 8-9 ounce leather no problem

I don’t do a ton of leather sheaths, but when I do it tends to come in batches. I’m getting tired of ripping the skin off my fingers tightening each pass of hand sewn saddle stitches.
Will this machine run waxed thread?

I'm not sure. I would say no though. My reasoning for this is there are a couple of tensioners on it and the tube the thread feeds thru is relatively small. I would think over time the wax would cause problems. I ended up running a synthetic thread that is super strong and smaller than the thread I used for hand stiching. I need to downsize my needle to better suit the thread I have. I cant remember exactly the name and size off hand. The array of thread available is staggering!! If your worried about waterproofing or strength you can get Kevlar thread!!

That’s good to know on the threads available. For the price of the machine I think it’s well worth trying. If I was doing leather as a significant part of my business I’d break down and get an industrial machine, but not for less than 20 sheaths a year.
