Hello guys do any of you know how to make walnut hull dye? I really like the color of it and would like to make a older looking knife and sheath and think this would be a really good color.

What I have used in the past was an old recipe from Medieval times

Use hulls, whole or ground, green or seasoned, doesn't matter, boil down in water to a thin gravy like substance and dip your leather in it for a while. The longer, the darker. It WILL stain your hands a nice walnut color also...........Randy

I just reread what I said and I may have eliminated a step. Wait until the dye cools before you put the leather in.........Randy

Yes sir know that from playing around with trying to mold a sheath. You will come out with something you will have to throw away. lol!!!!!
