Viking Axe Sheath

A friend asked me to make him a leather sheath for a Viking axe he recently purchased. This was my first axe sheath and as such I learned a lot and most likely would do it differently the next time around. He liked it and I learned a lot about making axe sheaths.

That's really nice! The piece that looks like a tooth. Is that just decoration or does it have a function that I don't see?

Because I grew up eating lutefisk I would love to take a good look at the ax.

It’s actually both. There is another piece of shaped antler in the other side. It serves as a leather wrap to keep the top of the sheath in place. I added the sleeve so the owner could attach a sling if he wanted.
