Hey guys,

like I have said before complete newbie here seeing if you can assist me. There is an auction tomorrow I just seen about 45 minutes from me. Wanted to get some more experienced advice on a few items before I decide to go. The first is a burr king model 760 I'm pretty for sure it will be out of my price range but wanted to know if it is good. Second is the little forge they just list it as a Johnson gas forge?

Burr kings are FANTASTIC grinders and built to last. Not sure that model is the best one for knifemakers though it might work out okay. The 960-272 is a good knifemaker's grinder.

Not sure about the forge.

Don't know about the forge but personally, I would pass on that grinder. Like John said, if it was a 960-272 it would be great but this model is very limited in what you can do with it. Just my .02.

I have never used a Johnson forge but I understand that they are gas hogs. You can probably build a better gas forge cheaper. Check out the thread at Build A Gas Forge for my tutorial. Send me an e-mail with any questions and any supplies needed.

You can also probably build a better belt grinder cheaper also. Check out the videos on my web-site.
