Titanium?

Hey,

I'm new to building folding knives. I've built a couple of fixed blade knives out of tool steel. I would like to build a frame lock type knife and I noticed a lot of you are using titanium for your frames. What are the advantages of using this material? Would a tool steel, like O-1 work?

I believe the greatest advantage to using Ti is the strength/weight ratio. I've seen several framelocks made of all steel in the past, but they felt like bricks.

Tool steel and Stainless steel can be used, you will need to H/T and draw to a spring temper. Also will be much heavier than Ti.

Cool, thanks! I have lots of tool steel laying around the shop...not so much Titanium. LOL! I'll just play with the tool steel until I get something I really like.

The main advantage of using Ti on a linerlock is that it makes a natural spring that doesn't need to be heat treated.
