Three primal/tactical tantos

I've been working on these in between other projects for the last couple of months or so. Although all three are tantos with similar handles, they are all pointed in different directions.

The top and middle two are forged from 5160, and the bottom one is forged from 1084. All three have neoprene foundations under the wrap, followed by black and coyote tan paracord, and hardened with West System marine epoxy. All three have coyote tan Kydex sheaths. All three shave hair nicely. :)

The Westernized tanto has a blade length of 7 3/8" and an overall length of 12 3/4". It's a stout blade with spine that starts at 1/4" and tapers distally to the tip.

The double edged kwaiken has a blade length of 6 3/8" and an overall length of 11 1/4". Veeeeery pointy tip and fully sharpened top edge would work well in pikal techniques.

This drop-point tanto has a blade length of 5 7/8" and an overall length of 11". Light and quick in the hand.

ooooohhh, aaaaahhhh, me likey. Especially the middle one. I think it is quite sexy when two bevels come together to form a ridge (you can elaborate on that with your own imagination as you wish). Seriously, though, the ridged geometry which sweeps to a point is quite elegant, and provides great contrast to the hammer finish.

I just finished a knife made with no electricity (except a drill press for the fittings), and it has a ridge and hamon). I really do like that geometry. No back edge for mine, though.

take care,
kc
