Simple carbon steels of .8% carbon content or less there is not much difference in how you cool, the oven cool will work. I personally prefer to quickly cool from tempering with any of my blades but it doesn't really make too much of a difference until you get above .85% carbon or start working with more alloying.
 
Is there any worry of increased warpage in oven cooling over quicker cooling? (assuming good racking on both)
 
Thanks for the reply Kevin. I wasn't talking about any steel in particular because I didn't figure it mattered. I work with 80crv2 all the way up to CPM M4. I'll just make sure I take them out and cool then quickly. If it's good enough for Kevin Cashen it's good enough for me.
