Surface Grinder

Can anybody give me information on a surface grinder that would fit on a no weld grinder ?

Does the no weld grinder use 1.5" tool arms? If so about the best SGA around is the Reeder unit.

I second this. I just got one and have yet to explore all it's functionality but it's amazing. If you get one, see if they can lathe you down an aluminum tracking wheel instead of the contact wheel you can get. The metal wheel has way less rounding at the edges.

How many of you garage shop folks have a surface grinder? What kind of projects is it most useful on? I am looking a buying one because the price and availability seem right, just not sure what I am going to use it for. My want appears to be exceeding my need and better judgment. What does the Garage Journal collective say?

I have a 6x12 manual Harig that I bought used about a year ago primarily for folder blades. I added a coolant spray system to it and now,
after learning how to run it well along with how it likes to be run, every knife I make goes on it including straight fixed blades.

I also have a manual 6x12 Harig but run it dry (want to figure out a coolant system some day to put on it)...i pretty much make slipjoints only, so every blade/spring i make is surface ground twice

Unless your forging all your knives and making Damascus or going for super flat ABS type knives they are a luxury for sure. One of these would IMO would bring your knives to the next level as far as flatness. That said many fantastic knife makers on here don't have them and produce unbelievable knives.
