Just finished these two forged from rr spikes. Both have alligator skin grips. The long one is 15 1/2" long with a 10" blade and the other is 12" long with a 7" blade. Both spikes started out at 6 5/8" long.

Wade,

Awesome looking work.

I've done several spike knives, but seem to have varing results with hardening and edge retentrion. I only use the spikes marked HC- the RR version of high carbon, and I know at best it's only about 40 points. Are there any surefire methods to get a better and consistant hardness from the RR spikes?
Thanks,
Mark

Jonathan, Franklin and George,
Sorry about not responding to your comments earlier. I had not been paying attention to my post. Thank you for commenting.
Mark, I use the HC spikes too, quenched into water. Most of the time I get a good edge hardening but some of the blades need to be quenched 2-3 times before they get good and hard. "If at first you don't succeed try try again". Thanks for the comment.
Wade
