Steel questions

Need some help. I am looking for information on metal that I can work using some basic tools I have. What metal besides 1084/1080 that I can use with a coal forge, one brick propane forge and a toaster over. Temperature monitoring is done with a magnet and a stove thermometer. Looking to make hatchets and some choppers.

Thanks

1075 would be perfect for your tools/equipment and for the things you want to make. 1084 is good too and maybe 5160.

thank you. I will do some research on 1075 and 5160. Any locations sell some larger sections for making hawks and hatchets? NJSteel is .25" and .312". I guess I could wrap it around to make the hole for the handle.

Yeah, Aldo is who I would have recommended so beyond that, I don't know. He has the best selection of widths and thicknesses that I know of.

Aldo has a lot of stuff that isn't listed on his website. Give him a call. If he doesn't already have what you want, he can probably get it.
