Stamp holder

Hello everyone ! Well, I thought i'd share with everyone my newest shop tool. This is a stamp holder that I designed, and Owen Vernon from Pasco WA fabricated. Like everything that I try to make this one is definitely overkill ! But, that's the way I like things. This should outlast me during my lifetime and still outlast the next maker that uses it. I hot stamp all the knives I make, and just am tired of either cooking my fingers, or having to use tongs to hold the stamp in place so I can mark it. Well, NO MORE ! Thank you again Owen Vernon for coming over and helping put this beast together.

The base is 1/2" x 3" x 6" It has 1/2" risers to allow spacing for the work to be marked. The main block is 1" thick, drill and tapped. Spacers for my stamp are 3/8" and there is a 1/4" face plate bolted on. The bolts are to allow different spacers if ever needed for other thickness of stamps to be used in the same tool.

Everyone who hot stamps their work should have something like this, it is such a life saver !

Nice work. Does the heat conducted from the blade to the detailed high surface area of the stamp effect its hardness?

The time exposed to the stamp from the hot blade doesn't effect the temper of the stamp. it doesn't touch very long. There is no spring, it just freely slides inside the framework and rests briefly on the knife. As for cold stamping, well I know it can be done, but I wont do it. I've not had good luck with cold stamping, and do not want to ruin a $150.00 stamp.
