Stainless Kitchen Knife

It's been awhile since I've posted a finished knife and I'm really proud of this one so I wanted to share it with you guys.

This knife is 11" long and made from AEB-l stainless steel. For the handle I used two materials for the first time the composite is black micarta and the wood is white oak from a whiskey barrel ( Thanks @Retroguy ;)) I sanded it up to 400 grit which isn't super fine but I took my time and I really feel like this is the first knife that I've nailed the hand sanded finish. Thanks for checking it out and tell me what you think.

Looks good Justin. The only point I might make is the two rear pins. If you use two pins that close to the end of the knife it may be better to use smaller diameter pins.

Lesson learn Gary trust me I made four blanks at the same time then sent them off to heat treat and I didn't realize I had an issue until I went to finish out the first kitchen knife I played it very safe on that side of the handle but even then I realize it's not ideal

Whoa . That is beautiful. Nice job with the whiskey oak. Question? Is that black micarda. I want to do a similar look with a bushcraft knife I am making. Is it easy to sand to get the glossy finish. Have you come up with a method to put your makers mark on your knifes? They deserve it.

Really nice looking knife there man. I've always wanted a custom chef knife. Just not in a position to attempt one myself in the next (insert number here) years ... lol

I NEED MY MAKERS MARK SO BAD but I haven't decided what I want it to be yet so that's why I haven't invested in getting everything to mark my blades yet. As far as the micarta it naturally starts to have that gloss after about 400 grit and from my experience once it wears down a little bit from use it looks a lot better. I'm know expert tho so it might be a good idea to ask someone who has used the material more

I know, picking a mark is hard. It's harder than naming your first born. Do you just do you name, a symbol, a shop name. I'm not sure I really need one yet, but I have a few designs I have been working on. I was going to actually start a post to have comments on them, but it is such a
personal choice.

I don't know...maybe community input would assist in making a decision or at least narrowing things down, depending on how many ideas you have. Plus, I'd be interested in seeing the process :D

Very nice Justin! Looks like it will do a great job in the kitchen. Who did your heat treating? I have three in AEB-L ready to send out for heat treating. Thinking of sending them to Texas Knifemaker’s Supply.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I appreciate how much you guys have helped me get to this point
