Shop exhaust fans

I'm looking to install an exhaust fan in my grinding room to get some air flow, remove smoke and airborne dust. It could be placed to just blow outside.
Anyone think that a portable blower ventilator fan would work?

Or am I better off with a wall mounted exhaust fan with shutters?

Thanks in advance,

Just my thoughts , but , i would opt for the wall mounted fan. It will be up and out of the way , plus you can install it right behind the grinder to move air from the grinder.

I think i have to agree with Scott. Ive been think hard about getting one with a shutter but i plan on moving my shop in a year or so. I am kinda scared about cutting a hole in the wall and then having to patch it when i move the shop.

I have a wall mount right behind the grinder. It is amazing how much dust and grit it pulls out of the shop.

I have no idea of how your shop is constructed, so take this as "if needed" thing. You must have an opening to supply incoming air to replace what you send out. Some sort of shutter like even a small foot square sliding window will work and of course it should be well away from the discharge opening. Frank
