As I look forward to selling a few knifes, i guess it’s premature. Should I be making sheaths also. If so, should I do leather or Kydex? Or should I ask which is easier to learn?
Except when they are wrong and we decide we dont want that particular hasselThe folks who want a "tactical" type knife tend to want Kydex, while other knives fit nicely with leather. The neck knives tend to use Kydex also. As mentioned, all depends on what the customer wants - remember, they are always right {g}
Probably was seeing as aurochs and wooly mammoth didn;t have kydex hides.Ok all good info and lots of good points being made above. I think I might try leather first, since that was probably the original sheath material.
The thought of leather working triggers me like a millennial that found out there's no "safe space" at their new job.
I started doing kydex...under protest!
Sheaths are a necessity evil in knife making IMO.
Go to any knife show and look for a couple tables with typical 8" hunters. If they are about the same in finish and priced about the same, the one with the nicer sheath sells first
I hate making sheaths, another motivation for me to make folders....lol
