Satinite question

Hi Guy's
I have been wanting to do some Hamons lately and trying to read all I can about them. I have tried Rutlands furnace cement before but it is in a caulking tube and kind of hard to work with to get a nice even thin coat. My question is , Where do you guy's get your Satinite and I hear alot of guy's thin it down with water, How thin do you thin it?

Thanks for the help..Jim

The last time I bought Satanite I went thru HighTempTools here:
http://www.hightemptools.com/refractorycoatings.html
and thinned it to a thin pancake batter consistency. I've since switched to
Dap Fireplace mortar (in the caulking tube) from HD. It doesn't pop off in the heat like Satanite wants to do.
I just squeeze some out and apply with finger to ~ 1/8" layer. A little messy but it seems to work well.

Good luck,

I use the Rutland in the tub. Plumbing dept at Lowes, in the furnace accessories.
I've had the tub for at least 2 years and just add a little water to whatever I spoon out, IF it needs it. Try getting it to peanut butter consistency. The tub is cheap, lasts a long time and it does work well.

I acquired a 5 gal bucket of it from a gentle man if you would like some I can get you a butter container of it.
