Protecting damascus

What are you guy's tips and tricks on protecting damascus after you finish a blade? It seems to me that all of the stuff I have worked with tends to rust very easily. There has got to be a way to keep this stuff nice.

Any hints?
 
I have known knifemakers to spray a coat of clear laquer on them. I prefer a good coat of renaissance wax. Otherwise, just keep them oiled.
 
after etching was the the etchant neutralized with Windex, dryed well, was it warmed to drive off surface moisture and then waxed? Everyone who has used a torch has seen the moisture show up on a supposedly dry piece of metal. If you don't do this step before waxing you are just sealing the moisture in and sure to get rust.
