I'd never pay retail for a new one, but if the price and condition were right, it'd certainly be better than nothing. It'll never mill or turn as well as a dedicated machine, but for small work every once in a while, you should be able to make some decent parts with it if you work within its limits. Are you gonna be building watches with it? Not likely.
Now, personally, if I wanted a machine that both did lathe AND mill work, and didn't take up half of a smaller shop, I'd buy the biggest lathe I felt comfortable with and get a milling table for it. Or better yet, I'd by a decent benchtop lathe and a bench top mill and have the best of both worlds.
If you're familiar with Clickspring on Youtube, does all of his work in something like a 6'x12' storage shed, and he DOES build time pieces.
