Right. Run the external switch in parallel with the built in one.

ORRRRRR just go buy a cheaper one to keep mounted in the vertical stand. The "top pick" on Amazon was under $100. The Harbor Freight Bauer is a good choice, too. It's what I use and I like it. The only issue I've had is an out of round rubber tire on one of the wheels. Little thicker on one side than the other. Maybe 1/16".

Cutting up the Bosch sounds like fun. Personally, I take most of my power tools apart. Heck, I change the grease in gearboxes on power tools as preventative maintenence... even cordless drills.
