Pivot pin on a friction folder questions

First question is it necessary to use a bushing at the pivot pin???

Do most folks that build folders use washers on both sides of the blade???

When I built this friction folder I did not use a bushing and I also did not use washers on both sides of the blade, against the blade.

On the one in the pic I peened out one side of the pivot pin and then installed it. I did use a thin bushing/shim that was later removed so that the pin would not get too tight from peening the other side of the pivot pin! Once I got the other side of the pivot pin peened out and removed that bushing, I then adjusted the tightness by peening just a couple of more licks, to get it where it was just right on the tension at the pivot!

I have been told by another maker that he doesn't use a bushing on the pivot pin but he uses .008 bronze washers on both sides of his blades!

So I am really just looking any advice on what is the best procedure as far as the pivot of a folder. What ever info you would be willing to share would be greatly appreciated!

I never use bushings and always use washers so think you got it right. You may get a smoother action on a bronze bushing but it's not necessary IMHO.

Thanks Ausbrooks, I just talked to another fellow says he cuts his washers out of shim material. I hadn't thought of that before so I have got to try it!
