Pipe Threader turned Twister

I've been trying to find an old pipe threader like that, preferably cheap, for a while. They must have gold bearings and silver motor windings! Everybody want's big money for them, usually $700-1000. Wonder if one of the handheld versions is strong enough to rig up?
 
I've used the hand held Ridgid's for years Anthony, with up to 2" pipe with a cheater bar thru the handle and while it's got tremendous torque I don't know if it would work or not.
First you'd have to figure out the logistics of making it stationary, then someway to clamp down on the billet.
I know it's got enough torque to take a #200 pound man off the ground but I've also used the stationary model like Ed's got there and that thing would turn the earth if given the chance.

Probably better to find a stationary one I guess. One of these days I'll find one in an estate sale or something where the owner doesn't know what it is.
 
There's one on Tampa Bay Craigslist now for $500.00 :(
the casing's cracked, the motor doesn't work and it generally looks like a very ugly boat anchor, so I'm not sure what it is that he's selling for $500.00
 
I am SO BLESSED!! My Pal Steve Kelly GAVE me this pipe threader, when he decided to no longer forge, and get deeper into his parts business (TiConnector.com). I had no idea these things were that valuable!

I'm still waiting of a friend (who is an electrician) to get back here with the module so I can have it turn both directions with the foot pedals.....right now all I have is counter-clockwise.
 
I lucked out and picked up a Rigid pipe threader with a quick release chuck at an auction for 300.00! Hopebto build a twistingbstation out of it soon!
