pine cone threads

has anyone seen any threads how to make scales from pine cone, im really interested in trying it............any help plz

It looks like people cast them in resin; ie put the pine cone into a container, cover completely with a clear casting resin or epoxy and let cure.

At our last 5160 Club meeting Eric Ochs passed around a bunch of his folders... one of which had a stunning set of spruce cone scales:

and it looks from their web site like the do custom stabilization also.

I got several sets at the AG Russell show from Ankrom Exotics, also got a pair of "corn on the cob" that I cant wait to use on a kitchen chopper!
