New sheath design.

KNIFE MAKER
So I have been playing with a sheath design that is a bit different. It docks the blade like a kydex sheath (without the scratching) and I like the looks...still need to powder-coat one. I made it with Cayman lined with pig-skin as it's a pretty good test of the concept...cayman is miserable to work with imo...and is like a bunch of whoop-de-doos on thickness..the teeh I designed into the frame grabbed the Cayman nicely. Veg tan leather is a dream with this method. Assembly is not a dream...lol.

I have been making charity blades for over a year..(and some give aways) and have come to the conclusion that my leather working skills are still lagging behind my metal/wood/plastic working skills. I don't have time to make them good enough to match my blade quality. So this is where I'm headed...between machining and cutting leather and assembly... it takes me a bit longer than stitching. It seems very light, and strong, and with the two piece frame, flexible. This is the pocket version.

Some very minor kinks to work out but I think I'm headed in a good direction...

I have a lay down design and an upright design...both will have clamps that trap the leather to the frame. I'm about wore out on this project though...what you see is prototype number 6...lol. Mucho trial and error...

I also have a pocket clip design. I think perhaps the clip design may be most popular on a small EDC? What do you all think? I will probably work on this (clip version) next unless I hear an overwhelming redirect from all of you.

I am not as likely to advance the horizontal carry now after a client lost a knife even though he said it was probably his fault for not putting the knife back correctly so I think the pocket clip is a good concept for the small knife although returning the knife to the sheath may be less convenient that getting it out. In general I am still in favour of behind the hip upright carry for all small to medium sized knives where working or hard walking is invollved but the weak side 45 degree carry has a lot of merit for the small and large knife as my order book has shown.
