That’s a big wheel!Burr King has a 20 in production. Rick Menefee had a custom wheel made that is I believe 21 1 /2. He's building the grinder now.
Anyone use a radiused platen? I think I've seen them at 36 and 48".
I have never seen one in person. I have read posts from Nathan the Machinist concerning them but since I don't hollow grind I never pursued one. It does seem like a very logical approach. And take this questions for what it's worth (coming from a guy who doesn't hollow grind) but isn't the rubber of the wheel a positive when it comes to hollow grinding? How would a belt splice act running across a rigid platen where the finish is so crucial?
Have you ever watched the you tube videos by SimpleLife. He has a video of him installing the glass platen from Nathan's. Interesting. He JB welds it on but he taps a small metal shelf for it to sit on.I was tempted to try one of Nathan's but I was afraid I'd mess up my flat grinding.
I'll make a note to watch that, thanks for mentioning it.Have you ever watched the you tube videos by SimpleLife. He has a video of him installing the glass platen from Nathan's. Interesting. He JB welds it on but he taps a small metal shelf for it to sit on.
Lol I didn’t even know they made 20’s.

To watch it he ground to my eye upside down. I grind edge up everything and he ground it edge down.
I just drilled and put three 1/8 inch pins under the bottom of the glass to hold it.The shelf is there in case the JB Weld fails so the Glass platen dosnt get thrown out of your grinder at hi speed!
