Hi all. Been looking into making knives for sometime now. Well the wife left , so now I can play . I just bought the plans for the No Weld Grinder from USA KnifeMaker. Does anyone have any up front advise before I buy anything. It looks very straight forward and I don't see any issues. My one deal is the pulleys. What should be the first three to get? I will add more to the project later but I would like to start as soon as I can get all my tools in order again.
I started with a www.cootegrinder.com and I just went to a local Hardware store and purchased two 2", 3" , 4" step pulleys, "Three speeds together" that were for Air-Con Swamp cooler type use's. " Chicago " was the MFG.
I can't tell you what speeds I had at the time? You need to know if you have a 1800 or 3600rpm motor for one? There is a math formula to determine your feet per minute.
I can't remember it? Perhaps someone else will chime it with it?
I used a fan belt off my truck for starters, Then I found this stuff called Linkbelt? There are at least two trade names for it, Harbor Freight or ebay will have it.
Thanks Rhino!! I have a full shop of sanders, drill presses and such just don't have a 2x72. So in this process will the following motor work. (attached pic)
