need help choosing heat treatment oven

hey guys

i'mlooking to buy HT oven but i know nothing on the subject, so help would be much appreciated

i'm thinking evenheat, a lot of people seem to like and recommend it, if you have arguments supporting other makes please let me know

1 the max heat, so far i work with sverker21 (D2/K110), O1(K460) and 55Cr3(5155) steels but i may add variety in steels i use in future, so suggestions on top temp?
2 which controls do you recommend?
3 my concerns about the size, and i know this will be entirely up to me i still want to hear your thoughts, i was thinking 22.5 depth, so far the longest one i made was about 13"and almost all of them never go beyond 12", but since i found a source for the spring steel i started longer ones 20" and more. so question is, stick to smaller oven or get the largest one i could now, i have no guarantee of making large blades (even though i like the idea a lot) also there is the power consumption and heat distribution issue if i put 8" blade in an oven design for 30" work! any light to be shed on this matter?
4 couple of people mentioned problem with heat distribution since thermocouple is at the top, some rais the work does that solve the problem entirely?

any additional info would be awesome!

btw, it will be 240V. and i dont make that much knives, but i am hoping to increase production significantly in the near future

thanks

Buy the largest you can afford. The 22.5 would probably be enough though. Buy a control that can be programed. That makes life easier. I have the Evenheat Rampmaster 2, 22.5 deep. I set my blades edge up in shallow slots, maybe 3/8" or so deep, cut into a standard sized fire brick. This puts the edges of most blades about 1 1/2" below the thermocouple. A large oven also keeps your blades farther from the heat coils which can easily over heat the blades regardless of the thermo reading, if too close. I run 3 at a time centered in the oven a little over a inch apart. Power consumption is not as great as many may believe. Maybe a couple of dollars or less per run where I am. At the least, not very noticeable to the average house hold power bill.

Thanks a lot LRB

I was just told that a larger oven might help even the temp tho. But raising the blades should help as you said

Iv had great experience with my EH 22.5 so much so that I added a second one slightly smaller at 18" The Ramp Master controller is great. as is the EH ovens.

The temp issues you speak of are not a problem or at least have never been for me. I let my oven come to temp and set at temp for a few minutes until the oven is warmed up properly. :)

Congrats on getting a oven. you wont regret the move.

God Bless YA
